The Ask

O.M.A (One Man Army), a local Fort Worth artist, needed a music video for his new single Ghetto Poetry. I aimed to create something that stood out from the typical music video; cinematic, powerful, and reflective of real Fort Worth grit. Since it was also my directorial debut, I wanted this to set a tone for the type of storytelling I bring.

The Development

Ghetto Poetry was shot on the fly. Our first location fell through, so we pivoted and used a parking garage downtown as the main backdrop. As daylight faded, I introduced a transitional car scene to blend day and night. We ended at a Texaco instead of a QT, which turned out to be a better setting. Each pivot led to something stronger.

The Design

I stuck to straight, on-beat cuts to keep transitions smooth across scenes. The grade leaned into warm orange and cool blue tones that added emotional weight. I avoided flashy effects and kept it cinematic. The only sound design came when I split the song to dramatize the scene where we were shut down and had to relocate. Aerial shots of downtown sealed the vibe.

The Takeaway

This wasn’t about matching visuals to lyrics, it was about translating the message of survival and movement. Even without pre-production, I created something solid that elevated both O.M.A’s image and my own standards. It gave O.M.A a strong visual identity to build from and introduced my cinematic signature to the Fort Worth scene.
